Polperro Primary Academy   19th December 2025

by Anthea Hillman

The children have enjoyed a wonderfully busy week, rounding off their enquiries and taking part in a range of festive activities. These included Reverend Richard's Christmas assembly on Tuesday, Christmas Lunch on Wednesday, Christmas Art Day on Thursday, and class parties today. Talland and Chaipel Classes' Christmas performances on Monday were spectacular and provided a fantastic finale to a brilliant series of performances from all of the children.

House Points Our house captains have totalled the house points for this term. House Points are awarded to children who demonstrate our school values: Curious, Creative, Excellent, Responsible, Determined, and Enthusiastic. This half term, our focus has been on being Curious. Congratulations to Oak, who are currently in the lead with 100 points, followed by Willow with 88 points, Ash with 75 points, and Chestnut with 70 points.

Clubs The Girls' Football Club for pupils in Years 3-6 will begin on Tuesday 13th January. We will contact you during the first week of next term with details of other clubs available for the upcoming half term.

Fundraising We are delighted that our Christmas Gift Shop on Monday raised over £250. A huge thank you to FOPS for all of the organising and wrapping. We also raised £67 for Save the Children on Christmas Jumper Day and £139.51 for Cornwall Hospice Care, our School Council's chosen charity, from kind donations after each of the class performances.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online - Parental Controls Guides To help keep children safe online, we encourage parents and carers to set up parental controls on all devices your child uses. Please use this link https://www.internetmatters.org/parental-controls/ to access easy, step-by-step guides showing how to activate parental controls on a wide range of devices, apps and online platforms. These tools can help you manage screen time, privacy settings and the content your child can access, creating a safer online experience. This information is particularly helpful at this time of year, as many children may receive new devices for Christmas such as: smart devices (e.g. TVs, speakers like Alexa); mobile phones (Android or iPhone); games consoles; tablets, laptops, or PCs. Taking a few minutes to set up parental controls can make a big difference in keeping your child safe online.

Dates The new term starts on Tuesday 6th January. Half term will be from Monday 16th February - Friday 20th February with an INSET Day on Friday 13th February. The last day of the Spring term is Thursday 2nd April and the Summer Term starts on Monday 20th April.

A huge thank you for all of your support so far this academic year. The children have worked incredibly hard and all deserve a wonderful Christmas break.

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas

Anthea Hillman and all of the staff at Polperro Primary Academy

We look forward to welcoming back the children on Tuesday 6th January 2026.

Blisland Primary Academy   Merry Christmas from Storytellers

Posted 19/12/2025
by Julie Pearce

We have ended the year wrapped in Christmas magic at Storytellers..

Our celebrations began with a Christmas party filled with laughter, games, snowy play, Santa's mysterious footsteps and a delicious party lunch that set the scene for something very special.

Then came the adventure.. a walk through the valley, where excitement buzzed in the air as we followed the path to Santa's house, hidden deep among the trees. Sharp ears quickly heard the gentle jingle of Santa's bell, and before long, we were greeted by Santa himself, who welcomed the children inside his cosy home.

Santa spoke to the children about the important work still to be done before Christmas, and together they practised a wonderfully festive Santa laugh - hands pressed on bellies, laughter echoing through the trees!  Each child had their own special moment with Santa and was gifted a magical bell to take home, a keepsake filled with Christmas wonder.

After many waves and smiles goodbye, the magic continued as we gathered around the fire pit to enjoy warm, toasty marshmallows before our walk back.

The children behaved impeccably throughout the day, and witnessing the awe, excitement and pure belief in Christmas through their eyes was nothing short of magical.

A huge thank you to our incredible Storytellers, families, and friends for your continued support throughout the year, and a very special thank you to Santa and his family for creating such a truly enchanting experience that the children will remember forever.

What a full and festive final couple of weeks we have had. Here's just some of the highlights.

Family Carol Service
It was wonderful to see so many families in a very full Egloshayle Church last week for our Carol Service. Well done to our string group, choir and readers for what was a lovely occasion.

Christmas Fun Run

Thank you and congratulations to everyone for raising a staggering £1030 for Children's Hospice South West in our recent Christmas Fun Run.

Christmas Raffle and Winter Fayre
FOWPA would like to thank all parents and carers for their support with the Christmas Raffle. We raised over £700 to help fund school improvements, trips and supplies. All winners have been contacted to collect their great prizes, mostly donated by local businesses of Wadebridge and Camelford, including: Williams Butchers; Party PA; The Molesworth; Hendra; Bodmin Railway; Ann's Cottage; Cheeses at Wadebridge; Vision's Hair Salon; The Nuthatch; Kiln Craft; Trevathan Farm; Wadebridge Sports and Leisure Centre; Camelford Leisure Centre; Wadebridge Computers; Steve Heard Butchers; Pencarrow House and Camelford Hardware Shop.

We hope everyone enjoyed this year's Winter Fayre, which is fast becoming a WPA festive tradition! We were pleased to see so many families attend. With your support we raised over £800 to support improvements to the school and fund equipment and trips that benefit the children. We couldn't do it without you, so thank you!

Nursery and Reception Singalong
Well done to all the children in Nursery and Reception for their spectacular sing along this week. The hall was packed to hear some well-known festive tunes, performed so brilliantly by the youngest children of the school. KS1 Nativity Performing to over 300 family members in just one day, our KS1 children certainly shone. Congratulations to all the children (and staff) for their amazing performance of A Bundle of Joy.

Cinema Trip
Thank you to Wadebridge Cinema for hosting us on two occasions this week - the children enjoyed watching the films. Thank you to the parents who supported walking the children down and back up(!) the hill.

English Success
We are incredibly proud of our young writers in Year 6B who have taken part in the Young Writers poetry competition, "I Have a Dream." A fantastic number of children from the class have had their poems selected for publication, which is a wonderful achievement and a testament to their creativity, imagination, and hard work. Their poems will be included in an anthology due to be published in February next year, and we are very much looking forward to receiving and sharing our copy in school. This is an exciting opportunity for our pupils to see their writing in print and to celebrate their voices as young poets. Well done to everyone involved!

Our Reading Ambassadors recently organised a wonderful creative competition - a "book in a diorama." Pupils were challenged to bring their favourite stories to life, and the results were truly impressive. The Reading Ambassadors joined Miss Johnston in judging the entries and were amazed by the effort and imagination on display. We saw fantastic dioramas inspired by stories such as Harry Potter, Commotion in the Ocean, Paddington Bear, The Secret Seven and The Christmas Story, to name just a few. Some entries were incredibly detailed - we even had real water used in one of the designs! A huge well done to everyone who took part (including parent participation). The Reading Ambassadors are already looking forward to organising the next competition, so watch this space!
From Emma Johnston (English Lead)

And finally.. Today we hosted our annual WPA staff pantomime for the children. It was a particularly moving event (and that's not just the staff dancing) as it marked the 20th anniversary of the same pantomime Mr Langton first performed all those years ago. We ended the panto with a very special farewell to a wonderful member of staff. We will miss you Mr Langton and wish you all the very best. It's certainly been a very long term, with so many memorable learning and enrichment opportunities. Just like that, we have reached the end of the Autumn term! The weather hasn't exactly been Christmassy but the songs and festive cheer have been felt in school! The Pirate Game is always a hit in KS2 and Class 1 have been making some amazing crafts, Christmas lunch was again superb on Wednesday - Thank you to Anna for putting on such a delicious spread! Is was a sad day yesterday as we wished Miss Bawden well as she left for the next stage of her journey. We know she will be missed but has promised to come and see us all in the new year. All that is left for me is to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year from everyone at Darite. November/December 2025

We have had another busy month and a bit in Year 4. During November and December, in Geography we have been looking into the question 'What impact did travel during the time of the Tudors have on the world as we know it?' The children have really enjoyed investigating the things travellers during the Tudor period found and how they impacted people then and now. They researched Sir Francis Drake and his circumnavigations, thinking about his discoveries and their impact on us today. The children also explored maps and atlases, in particular focusing on maps created back during the Tudor times and then comparing them to maps from today. They researched the tools that used to be used to draw and plot maps and thought about the reliability of them compared to the technology used today. The children learnt about the Mercator Projection and the distortions between a globe and a map. They then began to research some of the other travellers of the Tudor period and how their discoveries impacted the world as we know it as well as trade that happened between certain countries and how some of those trade links are still used today. The children came up with some brilliant ideas about the discoveries made and the affects of them since.

In Maths we have been continuing with our NCETM Mastering Number at Key Stage 2 work alongside our Whiterose unit of Multiplication.4

In PE we have been learning the skills and techniques needed to play a game of Basketball. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this unit.

We completed two English units, one was a narrative unit on Mrs Stink which involved us learning about the story, the characters and the authors writing style before planning, writing and editing our own chapter for the story. The other was a non-fiction unit, we recapped previous knowledge on Volcanoes and Mountains and then learnt about the different features of explanation texts before planning, writing and editing our own on Mount St Helen's.

St Cleer Primary Academy   We wish you a Merry Christmas...

by Michele Spencer

What a festive week we have had! Thank you to the lunch time team for our lovely Christmas dinner on Tuesday. Well done to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 for their wonderfully unique nativities. Year 3 and 4 enjoyed Aladdin at the theatre and year 5 revelled in the Liskeard We Will Rock You performances! The children have done so well this term - lots of progress and the foundations for the year have been set so they can thrive as they return in the Spring! Thank you so much to the staff team here who have worked endless hours to make it all happen. It really is a great team here. St Cleer Primary will celebrate 150 years in 2027 - in the run up to this the school is working with the Parental Engagement Framework and will be planning a celebration of this remarkable event in June 2027. We are at the early stages of gathering your views and looking at how we can engage with the wider community too. If you had a moment to complete this short survey we would be very grateful.

by Katie Grinsted

As we come to the end of the term, we would like to wish all of our Tregantle families a very merry Christmas!

It has been an incredible first term in Tregantle class, and we are so proud of everything the children have achieved. From learning their sounds and writing their names to making lots of new friends, the progress they have made in such a short time has been wonderful to see. It has truly been a privilege to get to know each and every child and to support them on their learning journey.

We have already shared so many memorable moments together, from exciting school trips to our fantastic Christmas production. These experiences have helped to make this term extra special and full of enjoyment.

We hope you all enjoy a wonderful Christmas break, filled with happiness, rest, and special time with loved ones. We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back in the spring term for more fun, learning, and new adventures. Best wishes and festive cheer, Team Tregantle

Blisland Primary Academy   Steam train adventures...

Storytellers had the most magical festive outing as we headed to Bodmin Railway to board the Santa Express heritage steam train. The excitement was sky-high as the children eagerly climbed aboard, watching in awe as the steam curled around the track and the train slowly pulled away with a cheerful whistle!

During the journey, the children enjoyed Christmas craft activities-and then came a truly unforgettable moment. Santa himself appeared on board, greeting each child with a smile and spending time chatting with them. Every child received a special present, making the experience even more magical.

On the return trip, our wonderful PTFA made sure no tummies rumbled by providing delicious treat bags for everyone.

Back at the station, the fun continued as the children met the Elf and Rudolph, before setting off for an extra treat, a McDonald's lunch! They sat together beautifully, and even members of the public commented on how well-behaved, polite, and joyful they all were.

A huge thank you to our fabulous helpers and to the brilliant PTFA, whose support makes these memorable experiences possible for our children.

Harrowbarrow Primary Academy   Merry Christmas

by Andrew Hunt

Merry Christmas!

Wishing all the families and friends of Harrowbarrow a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope you all have a lovely festive and, if possible, a restful break. It has been a wonderful term with the children. Seeing them progress, achieve and enjoy the whole school experience is why we do what we do. It goes without saying, this doesn't happen by accident,. It takes a lot of dedication, hard work and expertise and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for all they have done to make it such a successful term.

Candlelit Choir
Last night, Barrow Beats performed to their parents and carers at All Saints Church in the village. Abi Flashman provided LED candles, which gave the performance a very festive feel. If that wasn't enough, they serenaded everyone as they arrived at school this morning. Well done to all our singers.

Parent Staff Association
The PSA do an amazing job behind the scene, fundraising for the school and organising some fantastic school community events. The tea towels this year are probably the best I have ever seen and will make lovely Christmas gifts. Thank you to all our PSA members for the wonderful work  you do.

Design Technology
Class 3 completed their model pavilions this week and exhibited them for parents and carers at the end of the day yesterday. The making phase took longer than we thought but it was worth it as the children produced some very creative designs with a solid frame structure and interesting cladding choices.

Recycling Workshop
As part of our environmental work, Simon and Will from Biffa led workshops for Class 3 and Class 4 on Wednesday. The children learnt about what happens to their rubbish and recycling in Cornwall. Class 4 made some posters which will be attached to our classroom bins to help improve how we sort and dispose of our waste.

NSPCC Speak Out. Stay Safe.
We completed our participation in this NSPCC programme that helps children to understand what they can do if they feel unsafe, uncomfortable or worried about something. As well as learning to speak to a trusted adult, either at school or at home, they learnt about how Childline can help them. The school has been awarded the certificate below in recognition of our efforts to help keep children safe. If you get the opportunity, please ask your child if they can remember the Childline number and don't be surprised when they recall it with the aid of some helpful actions - they really paid attention to the important messaging.

Safeguarding Alert
We have been contacted by Cornwall Council with the following message:

We have been made aware that the children's book series 'According to Humphrey' (as seen below), have several books that contain a link to a website which has been compromised and now takes people to highly inappropriate and unsafe content. Please check if you have any of these books in your setting/library and remove the books/the page with the weblink in. We understand the problematic links can be found on the back cover and may be also included on a page inside. Please make your parents aware of this, so that they can check at home to ensure the safety of their children. Advise them to either remove the books immediately or remove the page with the weblink and please ask them to be extra-vigilant with all children's books that contain links and ensure that they are checked by an adult.

Final Reminder
The spring term starts on Tuesday 6th January as Monday 5th is a staff training day.

What a week it has been in Landaviddy class!

Our Christmas play, Lights, Camel, Action! was a hit! We are so proud of the enthusiasm from all the children and all their hard work paid off. Everyone was just amazing! Thank you to those who came to watch and support the class. We hope you enjoyed it!

During Computing this week, we have been filming our Stone Age stop motion animations. As you can imagine, the children thoroughly enjoyed using their chosen objects and backgrounds, to create their animations. In History, we have been looking at Neolithic tools and artefacts, making assumptions about what life must have been like due to the evidence discovered. In particular, we revisited Skara Brae and explored a range of objects that archaeologists had uncovered. During Art this week, we used natural materials to mark make, just like Stone Age artists! As well as using a variety of spices as pigmented paints. This was a lot of fun!

In English, we have just started a new unit on shape Poetry, starting by discussing a range of poetry and identifying features. Today, we explored a poem called 'Snow is Falling' and discussed our likes and dislikes. We have been subtracting 2-digit numbers from 3-digit numbers, which required a lot of determination.

Congratulations to Dexter and Brody for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week. And a big well done to Darragh for achieving his 99 club.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday, for our final week before Christmas!

TALLAND'S BLOG 12.12.25

WOWZERS.. This term is flying by! I can't believe we only have one week to go until we can jingle off on to our Christmas Holidays! I also can't believe it's Chaipel and Talland's Christmas Production THIS MONDAY! We did our first dress rehearsal in front of a live audience today and I think it's fair to say - the children smashed it! The children of Polperro were truly captivated!

Here's a breakdown of our week:

Maths:
Year 4 and 5 have both been looking at ways to solve problems involving multiplication and division. They were also lucky enough to show off their mathematical skills in a little Maths quiz!

English:
Talland have begun planning to write their own Legend story. They have thought of their setting, hero/heroine, villain/villainess and have decided which writing techniques they are going to focus on in each paragraph.

History:
We looked at how Britain changed after the Vikings arrived. How they conquered many parts of Britain, even beating King Alfred in Wessex. The Danelaw arrived and many were baptised, converting to Christianity as part of a bribe from King Alfred.  How long will peace last?

Computing:
Children worked collaboratively to create a webpage for a book review. They reviewed their favourite books, authors, summarised these stories and gave them a rating out of 5.

RE:
Linking to History, Talland looked at why Christians choose to get Baptised, what process they go through and what are the vital pieces of traditional equipment required to carry out the ceremony.

CONGRATULATIONS to Reuben and Emma this week for passing their next round in 99 club. Also, WELL DONE to Emma this week for being noticed for her consistent and excellent attitude towards learning and her kind manner.

That's all from us in Talland this week. We hope you have a great weekend and can't wait to see everyone next week.

Signing off from Mr. Langley and Mr. Bishop.
