Storytellers enjoyed listening to the
traditional tale The Little Red Hen. The children talked about why the hen's
friends wouldn't help her and whether it was kind for them to expect to eat her
bread after doing none of the hard work! This sparked some lovely discussions
about kindness, teamwork, and helping others.
After the story, the children had the chance to become little bakers themselves! They helped weigh the ingredients and took turns kneading the dough, noticing how its texture changed as they worked. The room soon filled with the wonderful smell of baking, and the best part of all was tasting their very own freshly baked loaf - warm, golden, and absolutely delicious!
We were also very grateful to get all our ingredients from our fantastic Village Shop, helping the children understand where food comes from and how our local community supports us.
This activity was not only great fun but also a wonderful learning experience. Listening to and discussing the story supported the children's understanding of morals and empathy, while baking helped them develop early maths and science skills through weighing, measuring, and observing changes. Working together encouraged sharing and cooperation, and the sensory experience of kneading dough built fine motor skills - all while giving them a real sense of pride and achievement in what they'd made.

Blisland Primary Harvest Celebration
Last week, Blisland Primary came together to celebrate one of the most special times of the year - Harvest. It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to reflect on where our food comes from, the importance of farming in Cornwall, and the value of sharing what we have with others.
Our Harvest Assembly was held in the beautiful Blisland Church, and it was a truly heartwarming occasion. The children sang a collection of traditional and modern harvest songs with great enthusiasm, filling the church with joyful voices. They also shared poetry they had written themselves, celebrating the changing seasons, the hard work of farmers, and the beauty of the Cornish countryside.
Parents, carers, and members of the community joined us for the event, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere that captured the spirit of the season perfectly.
A highlight of the celebration was our harvest auction. The children helped to present beautifully arranged vegetable boxes filled with locally grown produce. These were auctioned off at the end of the assembly, raising over £80 for the Wadebridge Food Bank. We are so proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm and for understanding the importance of helping those in need.
We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community. The donations for the food bank were incredible - from tins and pasta to fresh vegetables and toiletries. It was inspiring to see how everyone came together to make a difference. We want to extend our sincere thanks to all who donated, supported, or attended our Harvest event.
Throughout the week, pupils also learned about harvest traditions in Cornwall and explored how farming continues to play a vital role in our local economy and way of life. From understanding how crops are grown to learning about sustainable farming, the children developed a deeper appreciation for the people and processes that keep our communities fed.
Our Harvest celebrations truly showed the strength of the Blisland community - full of kindness, gratitude, and togetherness. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a memorable week.

We have been continuing with our enquiry question "How do I know it is autumn?".
The children have been very busy this week making orange bird feeders to take home and hang in gardens and have enjoyed collecting leaves to make an autumn bookmark.
The children have been learning about hibernation and so we made clay hedgehogs and put them in their little house to have a sleep before they went home.
Today (Friday) we have enjoyed going onto the field and into the school garden where as part of phonics we read the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". The children were encouraged to copy and make movements from the story and to move in different ways. We enjoyed a snack of porridge just like Goldilocks and the children answered questions from the story.
Also in phonics this week we have been exploring different words that rhyme when mixing them in a bowl in a game of "Lumpy, Bumpy Porridge", exploring sounds that we can make using our voices and have played a game of "Goldilocks, please be quiet" where the children had to listen and recognise familiar sounds they heard.
In maths we have been ordering numbers and identifying numbers that we see in our environment both indoors and out.
Just a reminder that it is INSET next Friday (24th) and then half term week.
Have a great weekend

Harvest is one of our favourite times of the year in school. It celebrates all of our values in so many ways. We have been collecting food to donate to the Liskeard Food Bank which also serves Looe and we have worked hard to understand all of the reasons why we do this, From history, to music, to thinking about others, to showing kindness to those who may need help more than we do and learning to share with others when we have enough.
To celebrate this year, we invited parents to two assemblies, Key Stage 1 in the morning and Key stage 2 in the afternoon. Each class had prepared songs, poems, prayers and art to share with their parents. We were so pleased that so many parents were able to join us.
We were also thrilled with the donations of food that we received. The photo is of the volunteers from the Liskeard Food Bank who came to take the food back to their storage facility. As you can see, their van is rather full of produce!
Harvest is colourful, vibrant , thoughtful, kind and helpful with so many other wonderful qualities to share the positive things in life when we all work together and to give thanks for the food that we eat and the people who grow and make it for us. Thank you to all those families who donated so generously.

Summer Reading Challenge
Today we were joined by Christine from Callington Library, who presented certificates to all those children who completed the summer reading challenge. Well done to all the participants.
Cross Country
At our weekly celebration assembly last Friday, I challenged the cross county runners, who were gearing up for their first race, to see if we could secure a top ten finish. Abi Flashman reported that all those who competed in the Great Trethew race did incredibly well but gave a special mention to Jacob Bloye who finished 4th. Next time, I shall challenge someone to win a race and see if this works again! Well done to all the runners and thank you to the parent carers for taking their children.
Morning Maths
Thank you to all those who attended our morning maths sessions this week. We hope this gave you a little insight into the work we do across the school at the start of the day. I'm sure your children enjoyed showing you what they do. I have had a lot of positive feedback so we will look for further opportunities for you to experience your children's learning in the future.
Art Exhibition
Just a reminder to join us for an exhibition of your children's art work on Wednesday 22nd October at 3.20pm in classes. If you have children in multiple classes, please visit each room.
Training Day and Half Term
Just a reminder that Friday 24th October is a staff training day so the school is closed to pupils. This will mean an early start to the half term holidays for the children!
Charity Haircut
Sophia Vinson is currently growing her hair to have it cut in aid of the Little Princess Trust. For further information and to find out how you can support Sophia, please see her poster below:

This week, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a special afternoon to mark Mental Health Day. We were delighted to welcome parents into school to join us for a range of activities designed to support and encourage positive mental health and wellbeing.
Our focus was on using the outdoors to ground ourselves and encouraging mindfulness through nature. Spending time outside, slowing down, and noticing the world around us can have a powerful impact on our wellbeing - and the children embraced this beautifully.
Together with parents, the children took part in a variety of calming and creative activities, including:
Throughout the afternoon, everyone took the opportunity to pause, notice, and appreciate the beauty of nature, while also connecting with each other in a calm and mindful way.
Thank you to all the parents who joined us - your involvement made the afternoon extra special.

This week in History, we have continued our fascinating learning journey through World War II. We've been busy researching, designing, and creating our very own clay medals, inspired by real wartime medals. The children thought carefully about the symbols and shapes they used to represent bravery, service, and resilience during the war. Once dry, the medals will be painted to give them a truly authentic look - scroll through the pictures below to see their brilliant creations!
We have also been learning about propaganda and the powerful role it played during the war. After exploring a range of original posters, the children imagined they were living during WWII and created their own persuasive posters encouraging families to evacuate their children to the countryside. The results were eye-catching and persuasive - just like the originals!
While the Year 5s were hard at work on their posters, the Year 6s were off on their residential trip to Dewerstone Cottage, where they enjoyed a fantastic few days packed with adventure and teamwork.
It's been a busy and exciting week of learning, creativity, and new experiences for both year groups!

We have had a busy first month in Year 4. They children have settled in and are getting used to the new routines and work load.
This month we have been looking into Climate Change. This has run through our Literacy, Geography and Science work. The children have researched and recapped what climate change is and its affect on the planet and more specifically, in Science, different habitats within the various climate zones.
We read the book 'The bear in the stars' in Literacy and the children completed lots of work on word clauses and the structures of stories. They then re-wrote the story in their own words and wrote their own endings. After investigating the different climate zones the children picked an animal from three different zones and completed work on how climate change was affecting those animals and their habitats.
In Maths we have started our daily times table work this month as well as completing our place value unit. We have covered number lines, rounding and roman numerals. The children particularly enjoyed learning our roman numerals song.
In Art, the children have completed lots of work on Climate change, creating art work that represents the planet both with climate change and what the planet would look like if we were able to slow the rate of it down. The children also created multimedia posters to help encourage and persuade people to help curb climate change.
In Music they have investigated what pitch, tempo, dynamics and rhythm mean and listened to lots of different styles of music to better understand the instruments involved. The children also listened to the 'Carnival of the Animals' and made notes about the animals they believed the music was representing, they then sketched these in the sketchbooks whilst re-listening to the music.

This week in
pre-school we were all about Harvest time!
The
children enjoyed our Harvest themed role play table, with lots of enthusiastic farmers
collecting crops and vegetables from the fields.
We watched
some clips of live action combine harvesters working in the fields, and what
different foods we harvest. We also saw a family visit a working mill and how they turned their farms wheat into flour.
We have talked about why we go to church to celebrate the Harvest festival, and why we are thankful at this time of year to all our hardworking farmers.
The
children did so well on Wednesday joining the whole school for Reverand
Richards Harvest Service in the church.
They had practiced 'Big Red Combine Harvester' and the actions to
perform alongside Lantic class. A big well done.
We enjoyed some seasonal baking in pre-school this week, with Mrs Carr bringing in some
apples we decided to bake some delicious apple and cinnamon cakes. The children have helped to weigh, stir and
scoop the mixture - not forgetting practicing their chopping skills preparing the
apple pieces. Pre-school smelt very
autumnal as they baked in the oven and the children said they were very yummy.
For art this week the children have been helping us to paint lots of different fruits and vegetables for our big healthy eating display. This has been a good way of talking about all the names of the fruits and vegetables that we know, and the children learning some names of ones they do not know.
With the
weather being dry we have enjoyed having our outside autumn discovery table with all our autumn treasures, and
a new addition is our mud kitchen role play area. The children have been making acorn cakes and
stick stew with all the natural resources.
It has allowed us to observe some great language skills and imaginative
play.
We will be
finishing off our 'Who am I?' enquiry question next week, and then our final
week before half term we will look at the celebrations of Diwali and Halloween.
A
reminder that Friday 24th October is an Inset Day.
The
Pre-School Team.

Few things will test your physical and mental resilience like a Cornish cross country run! It has been a pleasure starting the season with our running club 2025-2026. We have enjoyed some local hill running training and a stretch up to Trethevy Quoit. Not everyone feels ready for the East Cornwall Cross Country series but well done to those who took part in the first race at Trethew on Friday. These runs are always a test of the courage to start and the grit to get over the line. We are immensely proud of you all for taking those steps in your own way in your running journey so far this year.

We were so delighted this week to stage a musical extravaganza at Brunel which was attended by representatives from 10 different schools, including our Y5 pupils. Ages ranged from Y5-Y13 and the event was staged by The Gabriel Explore Vocal workshop. Only two schools in Cornwall were chosen to host, with a view to performing in Truro Cathedral next year and we were thrilled to take part. Many thanks to Mrs Swabey and Mr Jane for organising.
Our Y4 children are continuing with their weekly violin lessons and we've been impressed with how they are progressing each week - so very well done to them!
Mental Health Awareness Day was a ray of sunshine in October, as we all wore yellow this Friday and completed some mindful activities.
Thank you also for your support with Harvest Festival and contributing to the wonderful Saltash Food Bank. It was lovely to celebrate with so many parents and carers in assembly on Monday.
We really enjoyed our mixed media portraits lesson on Friday too!
Have a great weekend everyone.

This week has been full of exciting learning experiences In Year 1 and 2! We had a fantastic time working together during our team-building activities in Forest School, where we learned how to cooperate, problem solve and have fun outdoors.
Harvest Assembly
We also enjoyed a wonderful Harvest Assembly with the other children from Key Stage 1 and Foundation, celebrating all the things we're thankful for. It was lovely to sing and celebrate with so many of our families there with us and we very much enjoyed performing the songs that we have been learning with our music teacher Mrs Butlin. The donations for the local food bank were amazing and they were very grateful to receive so much food. It is nice to make a difference to our local community.
Back in the classroom, we have been busy with lots of fun activities that are helping us grow and learn in different ways and we cannot wait for more
adventures next week !

Another week goes by in Landaviddy class, and what a week it has been! We have continued to explore our enquiry question 'Who Rules the Animal Kingdom?' in Science, where we investigated which conditions woodlice prefer the most. The children loved hunting in the garden for woodlice, which we carefully brought back to the classroom to observe and discover which conditions they were drawn to the most. We found our woodlice spent most of their time on dark, damp surfaces. Once complete, we took our woodlice safely back to their micro-habitat.
In Geography, we made comparisons between the UK and Kenya, focusing on physical and human features. During Music with Mrs Butlin, we practised using the chime bars to create patterns which we performed to our partners. In DT, we explored how to join different materials together and evaluated which methods were best. This was lots of fun and helped us to start making decisions about how we may join different materials when creating our animal sock puppets.
We concluded our Place Value unit in Maths this week. All the children have done so well and shown a great understanding of Place Value. We have now moved on to Addition and Subtraction, starting today by applying numbers bonds within 10 to add tens and hundreds.
In English, we have made progress towards writing up a recount of our Dartmoor Zoo trip. We practised using our 'doctor's kits' to operate on sick sentences and turn these into healthy sentences. We enjoyed working together to improve our writing. Next week, we will finish writing our recounts.
Congratulations to Esme, Ida and Brody for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week. And a big well done to Frankie and Iylah for achieving their 99 club badges this week!
We hope you enjoy a fantastic weekend and will see you on Monday.

TALLAND'S BLOG 10.10.25
This term is flying by! Another end to another great week! Good luck to all of the Cross Country Runners'. We hope you enjoyed yourselves!
Here's a break down of our week:
Maths:
Year 4 have completed PLACE VALUE and have just begun ADDITION and SUBTRACTION where they have started by adding 10 / 100 / 1,000 to numbers. They have also explored quadrilaterals.
Year 5 have also begun ADDITION and SUBTRACTION where we have looked at regrouping numbers whilst using column method. They have also continued using protractors where they are measuring degrees up 180.
English:
Talland have independently completed their narrative, assessed which writing techniques they have used and are now writing them up using their neatest handwriting. Reading them was a real delight!
PE:
Yoga and football have of course continued and we are beginning to see some real progression in Talland's agility, balance, coordination and control.
Geography:
We had a double dose of Geography this week to get us ready for our trip to the Eden Project next week. We investigated Brazil's regions, found out about its climate and realised where most Rainforests are found.
Computing:
Talland made a fun maths game on Scratch this afternoon where different codes and variables were used - a good times table knowledge was also useful for this activity!
CONGRATULATIONS to Kayla for achieving her next badge in 99 club and a massive WELL DONE to George and Anya for getting noticed this week for their kindness and eagerness to learn.
We are going to Eden on Wednesday for our class trip (which I'm so excited for) and letter incoming in the attachments for some more fun to be had on Monday 20th October 2025!
That's all from us in Talland class. We hope you have a splendid weekend!
